Leave me alone

I wish that they’d leave me alone
For I’m only a NewsCorp tycoon
I may be a shaker in God’s larger acre
But it might as well be Brigadoon

I wish that they’d leave me alone
The place I belong is the corner
I may have the bunce but I’m only the dunce
Who sweats in a separate corner

I wish that they’d leave me alone
For what do I care about news?
I merely feed fish to the pelican wish
Of my parish – don’t pull up their pews

I wish that they’d leave me alone
Really I’m not worth the fuss
The cost of the print makes me very near skint
It’s the journalists fester the pus

Yes, I wish that they’d leave me alone
With my grace in the midst of disgrace
And my absolute shame at this scandalous game
And this isn’t a grin on my face

Supposing that Cameron falls?
Does a little bird tweet to my phone?
How could it fail to increase all my sales?
Ah, I wish that they’d leave me alone

Yes, I wish that they’d leave me alone
Like Garbo, the fabulous Greta
Hear me atone, for my heart’s not a stone
And ring up my tills (that feels better)

And never mind James and Rebekah
And leave me alone, on my tod
As sweet as a burdoch, I’m merely R. Murdoch
And my A-team has hacked into God

Leave me alone
Rupert Murdoch muttered ‘I wish they’d leave me alone’ of his 10 Downing Street contacts with Blair, Brown, and Cameron (the latter admitted him by the back door). Poetic licence allows me to add ‘that’ …
