No fly zone

This is a no-fly zone.
This is the airless air, where

nothing can fly
over the desert skywaves

with the single exceptions
of odd bombers

and occasionally fighters
tucked under the radar

and maybe a missile or seven
surging out of the white sea

and feeling free to land
in the sand over which

no-one of course can fly
apart from the phantoms

and the spooks
and the unholy ghosts

which are not really flying
because in a no-fly zone

no-one is allowed
to crowd the stratosphere

with the intention
of flying in any direction.

That is banned. Completely. That’s why it’s known
as a no-fly zone.
