The Bitter End
And this will be the very bitter end,
the final verse,
that we cannot in any shape or form defend
(which you say you cannot comprehend;
so here is the bulletin, terse:
'And this will be the very bitter end').
This time we will not pretend to pretend:
a curse
that we cannot in any shape or form defend,
not to our enemy, not to our friend,
this grudge we nurse.
And this will be the very bitter end.
We do not justify. We have no words to expend,
no-one with a speech to rehearse
that we cannot in any shape or form defend,
nothing to say, no message to send.
No blood, worse,
that we cannot in any shape or form defend.
And this will be very bitter: the end.
